Saturday Afternoon Mixed Doubles...

When..
Saturday Afternoons from 12:30pm until approximately 4:30pm. There are 4 competitions held each year, 1 in each of the school terms.
Divisions 3 and 4 use a slightly different format to Division 1 and 2 whereby they play 2 sets at once on 2 courts taking approx. 2 hours to play the allotted sets instead of taking approx. 4 hours on 1 court.

Where..
When entering, you will be placed in a team representing one of the Tennis Clubs within the B&DTA. Your home matches will be at your entered club and you will be required to travel when playing against teams from other clubs. Generally most teams are located in Wollongong's Northern suburbs.

Teams..
The higher divisions consist of 2 male and 2 female players. The lower divisions have 3 players per team and can be either male or female. Each team should consist of extra players so that each player is not required to play each and every week and can take a weekend off when required.

Playing Standard..
This competition currently has 4 divisions and caters for everyone from the reasonably advanced senior player through to intermediate juniors. Both adult and junior players are welcome in this competition, with grading based purely on ability.

Playing Format..
For the higher divisions with teams of 4 players, the competition is comprised of 8 sets of Doubles. Each player will play 4 of these sets. For the lower division teams playing in the 3 player format, the competition is comprised of 6 sets. Each player will play 1 set of Singles and 2 sets of Doubles.

Scoring..
A team is awarded 2 competition point for each set it wins. In addition, the team with the most games at the end of the allocated sets receives an additional 6 points. e.g. If a team in the higher divisions wins all 8 sets 6-0, they would receive 16 points for winning all 8 sets and receive an additional 6 points for winning the most games (48-0), thereby giving them a total of 22 points with the opposing team gaining NIL points as they won no sets and won less games than the other team.

What if I am not in a team?..
Most people playing in this competition don't enter as a team initially. By registering your interest through your local club (or through this web site), you will be placed in a team comparable to your ability and location.
